Jahmali

JAHMALI BIOGRAPHY:

Born Ryan Thomas in 1975, singer Jahmali was raised in a naturally musical environment, in Clarendon, Jamaica. As many on the Caribbean island, he started singing in church as a child.

As he moved on to his first approaches on sound-system shows, with successful random appearances in the community gatherings and competitions, he soon became aware of musical inputs coming from his surroundings.

His first music influences where those of 'The Gladiators', living just next-door, who contributed to awake his interest in song-writing. As a teenager Jahmali soon worked up the courage to tag along with childhood friends, to the recording studios of Jamaica's capital, Kingston.

The studios were a meeting point for all young musicians to hang out together, gather their inspiration and try to get noticed by producers. In this setting, it was not too long until Jahmali's incredible natural talent got discovered. Jahmali's first attempts at recording were for King Jammy, Barry O'Hare and Bobby 'Digital' Dixon.

The first singles date back to 1994, but it was in 1998 that he made a serious impact with debut album "El Shaddai" for producer Donovan Germain of Penthouse. His second album "Treasure Box" was released in 2000 by Bobby 'Digital' Dixon.

Still very young, his career took another major step forward as he started touring internationally with Buju Banton and The Till Shiloh Band, experience that geared him towards stardom.

Many brilliant singles followed, recorded for several producers. 2007 tune Roadblock on the "Greensleeves 2007 One Drop Anthems" compilation is definetly worth a mention.

Despite the countless number of tunes, a broader project for the much expected third album did not materialize and Jahmali is still perceived as a severely under-recorded artist by his fan-base.

In more recent times Jahmali started works with Barcelona based label Reggaeland. 2011 single "No Weapon"on the successful Dem Talking Riddim was very well received, followed by “Courageously” on the Reggae Reasoning Riddim and by boom tune “Selecta Man” on the Cultura Riddim which appeared for 12 weeks on the UK charts in 2012.

A further single for Reggaeland "Do It For Love" was released in July 2013 and the album "We I Open", in 2014.

After a break during which Jahmali experimented with many different styles and sounds and with eyes across the water internationally, he wrote 'Wings' in 2017 his first 'non Jamaican' style of music. This was released as a single in April 2018 by Excluss Promotions along with his first music video - Wings.
